On February 6, 1958, a tragic event unfolded known as the Munich air disaster, when British European Airways flight 609 crashed during its third attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at Munich-Riem Airport in West Germany. Aboard the aircraft was the renowned Manchester United football team, affectionately known as the “Busby Babes,” along with several supporters and journalists. Of the 44 individuals onboard, 20 tragically lost their lives at the scene. The injured passengers, some of whom were unconscious, were rushed to the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich, where an additional three succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total fatalities to 23, with 21 survivors.
