On February 6, 1958, a heartbreaking incident, known as the Munich air disaster, occurred when British European Airways flight 609 tragically crashed during its third attempt to take off from a slushy runway at Munich-Riem Airport in West Germany. Onboard was the celebrated Manchester United football team, affectionately referred to as the “Busby Babes,” along with a number of supporters and journalists. Out of the 44 people aboard, 20 lost their lives at the crash site. The injured, some of whom were unconscious, were swiftly transported to Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich, where three more tragically passed away due to their injuries, raising the total death toll to 23, while 21 individuals survived.
