On February 6, 1958, the world witnessed a heart-wrenching tragedy known as the Munich air disaster, when British European Airways flight 609 crashed during its ill-fated third attempt to take off from a slush-covered runway at Munich-Riem Airport in West Germany. This catastrophic event claimed the lives of 20 individuals instantly, including members of the illustrious Manchester United football team, affectionately dubbed the “Busby Babes,” as well as loyal supporters and journalists. The aftermath saw 21 survivors, but the toll continued to rise as three more succumbed to their injuries at the Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich, bringing the total fatalities to 23.
