On February 6, 1958, the world witnessed a tragic event known as the Munich air disaster. This calamity struck when British European Airways flight 609 crashed during its third attempt to take off from a slick runway at Munich-Riem Airport in West Germany. Among those aboard were the renowned Manchester United football team, affectionately known as the “Busby Babes,” along with several fans and journalists. Out of the 44 individuals on the flight, 20 lost their lives at the scene of the crash. The injured, some of whom were unconscious, were quickly transported to Rechts der Isar Hospital in Munich, where an additional three succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total fatalities to 23, leaving only 21 survivors.
